Our first dance of the season is Slow Nite Club - music for this dance is the most (by more than 80% of the time) played slow music anywhere.
NOTE: These instructions work hand in hand w/your actual lessons - not meant to replace the lessons.
We learned how to position ourselves with our partner. The gal is more to the man's R side than centred in front of him. Her R shoulder should be in line w/his sternum. Now they have 4 tracks instead of just 2. The man always starts w/his L foot, and the girl w/her R foot. Because (we at least assume) the man is the leader here, when I say L - I mean his left; when I say 'forward', I mean his forward.
1) Side Sways: Man steps to the side w/his L foot, and allows the R foot to slide together to the L, but no weight change onto that foot. Same thing then in the other direction. (count = 1,2 3,4)
2) Basic Forward & Back: Starting w/the side sways (first L, then R), the man then takes 2 forward walking steps (L, then R). 2 more side sways, and then 2 steps walking backward (L, then R). The girl's part is the exact opposite.
3) Promenade to Reverse: Stepping forward to his L (rather than forward into the girl, the man walks 2 steps forward, does a 1/2 turn (between beats), and then on the same line - 2 steps walking backwards. The lady does the exact same. She travels forward alongside him, and then backwards as well. They finish by turning to face each other & dance 'side sways' again. BUT - the man will take a 2-hand hold w/his partner instead of placing his R hand onto her back. They need the space in order to be able to comfortably dance step # 4.
4) Grapevine: This movement(s) will follow the 2 side sways in #3. W/a 2-hand hold, both partners will step forward w/their lead foot (men - L, wmn - R) going back in the same direction from where they just came from. Keeping their upper bodies facing one another, and turning at the waist, hips & knees only - they will both step >> forward, side, back, side - all steps travel on the same line. These steps will look very nice if kept compact. It is more about the turning smoothly, not about large steps.
