This is our 1st week on the Waltz dance for this season. We learned a gorgeous pattern called 'Face to Face, Back to Back' . .
> 1st 2 measures were the Box w/Underarm Turn (from beginner's level). Then they both step Forward (kinda side x side, except that when the girl goes under his arm with her forward steps, she ends up being a little bit ahead of him) - just before they take this 'new' forward step. So the man has to take a slightly more aggressive forward step to catch up to her. *Girls - do not compromise the size of your steps to stay back with the man. You WANT to get ahead of him - he'll catch up! Then, turning to face one another with a Side step, they connect the other hand. And then - close the feet. *As you are closing the feet, you should "lower" to create enough power to step out onto the next (turning) step. This step is forward along the line of dance (for both partners).
He is turning to his R, and she is turning to her L. They both step forward (turning away from each other). Continue to turn to the Side step - *now they are both 'back to back'. Close the feet with the other foot.
NOTE: On that side step - it is actually 'side & slightly forward'. The man will lead this step with a Left side lead (ribcage). The arms will extend forward, but only because of this Left side lead. In other words - no pulling on the arm. *Both partners should be looking forward down the line of dance at this point.
> Now (5th measure) - The man steps L foot forward along the line of dance, leading his partner to do the same - but he is commencing to rotate towards her. Then, on the side step, he will have turned all the way to face her, place his R hand on her back, and when he closes his feet - he will continue the turn just enough to turn her to promenade position. * He can either let go of her other hand as he starts to place his hand on her back, or he can just keep the connection. But if he lets go, he mustn't rush to pick it up.
> 6th measure - Both partners step forward (going back on the line of dance)xss themselves, and Side step to face, and then feet close together. THE END.
