On lesson #5, the Cha Cha, we added some Outside Crossovers into our dance routine. That is where the man dances forward rock steps only, and the girl dances back rock steps only - and when he steps forward into a rock step, he steps just outside of her. After the turn around from last week's steps, the man cha-cha-cha's to the side into the 1st outside crossover. He then cha-chas to the other side of her to an outside crossover, and once again he cha chas to his R to an outside crossover, then to the L, and both turn around. Whenever he does a forward rock step, she is doing a back rock step.
Then we adapted the entire routine to Rumba music - just by trading the cha-cha-cha side steps to "one" side step only. So, we danced rock step, SIDE, rock step, SIDE. - A single step between rock steps instead of a triple step.
Cha Cha is a fun dance to be sure - but it is not the easiest dance to learn. Next week we start on the Waltz. Waltz is a beautiful flowing dance. You will likely find it to be somewhat easier to learn.
Never ever get down on yourself when learning to dance. Is it challenging?? Yes, for sure, absolutely! But enjoy the journey. Laugh at yourself sometimes. It gets easier & even more fun. And remember - if you're feeling frustrated once in awhile, think about your partner. A big hug would be a great idea!!
