1st 1/2 hour - total review of the Waltz steps - Box, Progressive Forward 1/2 Boxes, L & R 1/4 Turns, and a Box w/a Lady's Underarm Turn
2nd 1/2 hour - the beginning of the fun & livley Samba dance . . .
1) Box step - rise up onto balls of feet 'before' stepping forward onto 1st step, then forward, step side, and 'pull' the other foot to close. Back on R foot, step side, and 'pull' the other foot to close. Try to localize the strong body action into the hips & legs - rather than 'hopping'.
2) Chasse - step forward, then 'side & pull to close' - 1 (forward step), ah 2 (side step & pull to close other foot), ah 3 (same), ah 4 (same). Then step back on '5', ah 6, ah 7, ah 8.
3) We "started" learning the Copa Compasso - a 5th position break (side step on L, toe to heel step on ball of R, and step in place onto L (reverse for gals of course). Then 3 copa steps into promenade direcion (side x side) - step forward, collapse other knee forward, step back onto ball of foot of rear foot, and then pull the front foot back. Then a 'side break'. Then both partners cross their outside foot over in front of their inside foot & do a 'crossover chasse' going backwards -to 8 & 2. Then the man steps forward into his partner for a finishing box step. **We haven't perfected this step yet - tba NEXT WEEK!
