First night of the Rumba dance . .
Basic step: Man steps side step w/his R foot. Then a small forward step w/his L foot, rock back onto his R. Side step to the L, step back onto R foot, and rock forward onto L foot. Her steps are the 'exact' opposite.
Count each Slow (that would be the 'side steps') as 1, 2, 3, 4 - ie: 1, quick quick, 2 quick quick, 3 quick quick, 4 quick. (quicks are the rock steps)
Forward Crossovers: Man starts this pattern exactly the same - step to the side w/the R foot. But this time, he releases his R hand from her back; and they both turn (to side x side position) and do a forward rock step (forward, then back onto the other foot). They then turn to face each other & both do a side step (switch hand holds), open up on the other side & both do a rock step. Repeat 2 more times (a total of 4 times - 1QQ, 2QQ, 3QQ, 4QQ)
Note: when you finish with the last (4QQ), you are both back at the beginning - Man steps side to the R, and she steps side to the L - *go right back to the beginning - the basic step.
So 4 measures of the basic steps, 4 measures of the Forward Crossovers, 4 measures of the basic, 4 measures of the forward crossovers.
